–– William Shakespeare
Allison made her theatrical debut on February 27, 1980, when she was born, 2 days prior to leap day, in a
paralyzing blizzard, in Defiance, OH. From the moment she stepped "onto the stage," Allison sought out
performance opportunities. She could often be seen dancing and singing for restaurant patrons during family
dinners, or forcing her unwilling friends to "put on a play" during play dates.
After daily questioning and nagging, her kindergarten teacher (bless her!) awarded Allison the lead in the
annual musical. As the Statue of Liberty, Allison valiantly held her flashlight "torch" high in the air for
half an hour, without lowering it an inch! The rest of her youth was littered with roles at the Young
People's Theatre Guild in Noble, OH, and afternoons were kept busy with weekly piano, voice, and dance classes.
At the age of 11, Allison's parents took her on a weekend trip to Toronto, where she saw the highly acclaimed
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, at the Pantages Theatre. Upon hearing Christine Diae sing "Think of Me," Allison realized
that not only could one perform onstage for fun, but one could also do it as a career! The decision was made,
and Allison began focusing more intently on her craft. After a move to Jupiter, FL at age 14, Allison began
studying voice seriously, with the acclaimed opera star, Demetra George. Her high school drama and dance teacher,
Sarah Salivar, fleshed out her studies with several performance opportunities in the dance department, as well as
leading roles in the school musicals.
Allison moved to Michigan at age 17, and spent her senior year at Petoskey High School, where she studied voice
with June Zoerhof, and sang with the Madrigal Choir. The fall of '98 found Allison as a freshman scholarship
student at Michigan State University, where she began her studies as a classical voice major. On the path of
classical music, Allison applied, and was accepted, to New York University where she began her master's studies
in the fall of 2002. There she studied and worked with many top notch directors, professors, and instructors
such as William Wesbrooks, Dr. Grant Wenaus, Diane Ciesla, Chris Wells, Michael Ricciardone, Darren Cohen,
John Simpkins, and voice teacher, Jane Olian, with whom she continues to study to this day!
While pursuing her graduate studies in New York City, Allison was fortunate enough to be re-exposed to the
marvelous world of music theatre, both in the classroom, and on the Broadway stage. This sparked Allison's
prior interest in the profession, and she spent a third year at NYU, as a Jan Peerce voice scholarship
student, completing an Artist Diploma in music theatre.
Since graduation from NYU in 2005, Allison has been busy, busy, busy! Much love and thanks to family,
friends, and mentors! The journey has sure been exciting so far. Here's to the future!
